 Sunday School

Notices to Parents and Students:

(1) September 14, 2002

Welcome to all our new and returning Sunday School students and parents. This year, we will again have five classes:

  1. Confirmation class – for students grade 7 or above

  2. Grade 5-6 class

  3. Grade 3-4 class

  4. Grade 1-2 class

  5. Preschool and Primary class

Sunday School will start at 9:50 am each Sunday in the Townsend room with music and singing (15 minutes).  All students are expected to attend.  Colleen Day is our music director.  Afterwards, the students will break up into individual classes for Christian education (40 minutes).  They will then join their parents / congregation for Holy Communion and the children’s talk given by Archdeacon Rod Gillis.

Our Sunday School curriculum, “Good News Explorers” from Augsburg Fortress, is a two-year cycle program.  The preschool and primary class uses Bible story pages, the grade 1-2 class uses Bible newspapers, the grade 3-4 class uses Bible challenge cards and the Grade 5-6 class uses Bibletalk booklets.  Again, we will have team teaching for each class.  If you have any questions or concerns about the curriculum or otherwise, please feel free to contact the following staff:

Confirmation class: Carmon Stone (477-8118)

Grade 5-6: Audrey Li (425-3211)

Grade 3-4: Nancy Knight (479-1215)

Grade 1-2: Nancy Green (475-3397)

Preschool / Primary: Kathy Mason (876-7192)

Music: Colleen Day (477-9705)

If you are interested in helping out with the Sunday School program in any way, please contact any of us.  Your help will be most welcome.

St. James’ church orchestra plays in special services during the year.  It is a great learning experience and a lot of fun for the players.  The orchestra enriches the service for all.  There is no age limit to join and anyone who can play a string or woodwind instrument at any level is most welcome.  Rehearsals are usually arranged according to needs.   If interested, please contact our director David Wilson (445-2756).

St. James’ also has a youth group program that meets on Sunday evenings.  If you are interested in joining, please contact Melissa Nowe (431-6607) or Wendy Gillis (479-1139).
