MARY THE VIRGIN
you have taken to yourself the blessed Virgin Mary,
mother of your incarnate Son.
May we who have been redeemed by his blood,
share with her the glory of your eternal kingdom;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
READING FROM THE BOOK OF ISAIAH
Again the Lord spoke to
Ahaz, saying, Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as
Sheol or high as heaven. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, and I will
not put the Lord to the test. Then Isaiah said: "Hear then, O
house of David! Is it too little for you to weary mortals, that
you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a
sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son,
and shall name him Immanuel. He shall eat curds and honey by the
time he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good."

"Abba! Father!" So you are no longer a slave but a
child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.
HOLY GOSPEL OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST
ACCORDING TO LUKE
Mary said, "My
soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant.
Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the
Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His
mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He
has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the
thoughts of their hearts. He has brought down the powerful from
their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; he has filled the hungry

servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, according to the
promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his
