"There is a Green Hill Far Away"

The music to the anthem "There is a Green Hill Far Away" being sung at communion this morning was composed for St. James Church in 1981 by James Billman, a long time parishioner of the church. "Jimmy" (as he was known to most of us) came from a family which had a long and distinguished association with St. James.  He and his sister, Gladdie, were members of St. James Senior Choir for many years. Parishioners who attended in the Old Church will recall seeing both of them in their familiar places every Sunday. Music played an important part in Jimmy's life and he took part in many of the musical events that took place in the church. Jimmy was in the congregation when the Senior Choir sang his composition for the first time.
