Beavers,
Cubs and their families finished the scouting year with the "Annual
Pot-luck Closing" last Wednesday evening in the church hall.
The
Beaver Colony has taken advantage of many mild Monday evenings in the past
two months by holding a number of outdoor meetings in places like Frog
Pond and Flemming Park.
The
Wolf Cub Pack, likewise, ventured out to visit places like, the Rockin'
Reptiles exhibit at the NS Museum, the naval museum at Stadacona, the
weather station at the Dockyards, and the Thomas McCulloch Museum at
Dalhousie University. The Cubs were also treated to an evening in the
church learning about the creation story as depicted in our new stained
glass windows.
Together,
Beavers and Cubs have planted trees at Miller Lake, raced their model
wooden cars at the Kub Kar Rally, and raised funds at bottle drives and
through Apple Day and the Popcorn Campaign. They marched in church parades
for Remembrance Day and during Scout/Guide Week. We also were delighted to
have Canon Rod Gillis visit both sections with his guitar to join us in
singing campfire songs.
Next
year, we plan to add a Scout Troop (ages 11 to 15 years) to our group.
Please contact me right away, if you would like to join as a youth member
or as an adult volunteer. We especially need one or two women who will act
as helpers or leaders since our group is coed (experience is not
necessary). We are planning some early summer activities including a trip
on a sail boat and a camping trip, so don't delay.
This
year we celebrate our 10th year since reopening the group, and the 100th
anniversary of scouting in Canada. On behalf of the 1st Armdale Group, I
would like to thank St. James for the great support given over the past
year.
