Mission
Statement
The
parish of St. James, Armdale, seeks to live out the Christian faith in the
Anglican tradition, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We strive to
grow as a welcoming, friendly, parish family that has strong liturgical,
pastoral and teaching ministries. We are dedicated to fostering the values
of the Christian faith in our parish, and reaching out to the wider
community.
Parish
Goals
We
believe that the commitment of the members of our parish, together with
our church facilities and location are among our strongest assets in
advancing the following goals:
1.
YOUTH
To
undertake a series of youth oriented initiatives such as:
Possible
acquisition of a Youth Minister, development of a junior choir, promotion
of Scouting programs, establishing a youth sports night, instituting a
youth service (worship).
2.
NEWCOMERS
To
undertake a more proactive welcoming program in the parish by:
Sponsoring
newcomers, producing additional promotional material, forming a team of
greeters, greeting and introducing newcomers, inviting newcomers to become
involved in the life of the Parish.
3.
LITURGY
To
continue to develop/introduce meaningful liturgies based on continued use
of both the BCP and the BAS by:
Furthering
lay involvement in the Services, forming a junior choir, offering a series
of youth liturgies, and offering some special worship services.
4.
MUSIC
To
undertake to increase congregational input with regards to music
initiatives and practices in the parish by:
Increased
use of St. James orchestra, forming a junior choir, having old hymn
favorites occasionally, using contemporary (youth) music occasionally,
using more family oriented hymns.
5.
PARISH ACTIVITIES
To
undertake to increase opportunities for parish activities, and to
encourage parishioner involvement by:
Pursuing
parish fundraisers, offering transportation to those in need, inviting
people to join organizations, developing a prayer chain, forming a Men's
Group.
6.
TALENT
To
identify and harness the talents and hobbies of parishioners by:
Creating
a talent-hobbies inventory, inviting parishioners with specific talents to
participate in relevant parish events. |
