Wilson holds a B.F.A. (Carnegie Mellon), an M.Mus (Eastman) and a PhD.
(Case). He was the founding Chair of the Department of Music at
Dalhousie University, where he also directed the Early Music Ensembles
until his retirement in 1993.
Since then he has been Organist/Choir Director at St. James Anglican
Church and, since 1986, Music Director of the Halifax Baroque
Ensemble. Dr. Wilson is a past member of the Halifax Symphony
Orchestra (1957-61), was Co-Founder of the Early Music Society of Nova
Scotia, and Founding President of Musique Royale. He lectured on
French Organ Music at the Schola Cantorum in Paris (1999). His
publications include Music of the Middle Ages: Style and Structure
and Music of the Middle Ages: An Anthology for Performance and Study
(both MacMillan, NY). His original transcriptions of Medieval music
were recorded by the Hilliard Ensemble and the Western Wind, both directed
by Paul
Hilliard. In 1993, Dr. Wilson was awarded a Certificate of
Merit of the Cultural Federations of Nova Scotia for his contribution to
the Arts in Nova Scotia.
